How can I book a PC or learning space in the library?

Answer

How to book a library learning space

You can book learning spaces in both libraries using the MyPC booking system.

1. Log in with your SHU username and password
2. Use the menus at the top of the screen to select where you want to book, what kind of resource you want to use, and on what date

3. Scroll down the page to the specific resource you want to book e.g. L2 Zone 2B Quiet - PC 024

4. And scroll across to the time of day you would like to book - this is in 24 hour time so 9am is 9:00 and 9pm is 21:00

5. White space on the grid means that the resource is available to book at that time. Blue or red blocks mean that the resource is booked at that time.

6. Click on the white space and fill in the box with a start time and an end time, and click ‘Save’ to create your booking

7. You will receive an email confirming your booking

Library PC booking policies

  • You can book a space up to 14 days in advance.

  • You can have 14 advanced bookings in the booking system at a time.

  • The minimum booking duration for one booking is 15 minutes, the maximum booking duration for one booking is 2 hours. You can make multiple bookings if you need to book for more than 2 hours.

  • During peak times (10am-6pm Monday-Sunday) you can make 5 hours of bookings per day on bookable resources. From 6pm-10am Monday-Sunday you can book for as many hours as you like on the resources that are available.

  • You can book one space to use at a time, multiple bookings made for the same date and time are not permitted.

  • Please arrive on time for your bookings. If you have booked an IT space, please login to the computer within 15 minutes of your booking start time, otherwise your booking will automatically cancel and the space will become available for others to book.

  • If you have booked an IT space, you must be the person to login to that space. If you log out of the computer during your booking the remaining booking time will be cancelled.

  • If you log in to a computer and do not use it for more than 30 minutes, the system will automatically log you out and your remaining booking time will be cancelled.

  • If you are automatically logged off a computer your work will not be saved.

  • During peak times (10am-6pm Monday-Sunday) any time used for bookings that you cancel or that are automatically cancelled will still be available for you to use for another booking that day.

  • If you have booked an IT space, at the end of your booking the system will remind you that your booking is coming to an end. This happens at 20 minutes,10 minutes and 5 minutes before the end of your booking.

  • Please ensure that you save any work regularly as the system will automatically log off at the end of your booking.

  • Please consider other library users and ensure that you leave the space promptly at the end of your booking.

  • If there are no bookings when yours is due to end, you will be prompted to extend your booking for one hour.

  • If you have booked a space without IT, please consider other library users and ensure that you leave the space promptly at the end of your booking.

  • Alternatively, you can check the booking system and make another booking (if the resource is still available) to extend your stay in that space
